Need some advice on painting

I need help on painting some plastic. I bought a scooter (yea go ahead and laugh) and it needs a paint job. The siding is plastic. I've done a little research and this is what I've come up with:
1. Sand it down to roughen it up
2. Apply something like Bulldog Adhesion Promoter.. 3-5 light coats
3. Spray on some auto motive paint.
4. Spray on a lacquer finish for a shine.

Is this correct? Any thing else I should know? What grade sand paper should I use to finish the sanding so I have a nice smooth finish? What type of aerosol paint should I buy? (Brand) I will also be using bondo to patch up some scrapes and cracks.

Thanks!

Oh P.S. - The color is silver now and I want to paint it metallic chrome... Do I need to prime it first or can I just spray over it?

Welcome for the forum.
Since your scooter is already painted, no special prep is needed, BUT, since you want to go with chrome paint, you will need to prep, and paint black with clear. Then you will need to wetsand and buff it. Then you will need to directly apply the chrome over the black. This is very tedious, so be sure you practice this. Then you will need to let it sit overnight. Then clear.
Alot of steps involved, but this is your best bet into making it looks like real chrome.

Thanks taz. I've changed my mind on the color after looking around. I'm just going to go with a metallic silver. Does this change anything? Plus do I not need to use a flex agent? I just don't want the paint to crack or flake on the plastic. And what do you mean "paint black with clear"... I guess I just don't know the lingo.. :sillyme::sillyme:

As long as the scooter parts are currently painted, you can treat them as 'painted parts' and not raw plastic parts.

As far as painting with silver metallic, you'll just be painting and prepping it normal. No need to paint it black and clear first. When using chrome, the parts would have needed to be 'painted black' and then 'clearcoated' before you even begin to do the chrome paint step
