Hello guys,
I'm a non painter trying to gather info for a friend who is helping me on a painting project. I'm working with a dark red/burgandy metallic base (no way to change this variable). I want a darker shadowed rally stripe(s) on the vehicle. Would like a black or dark affect without killing the red base; kind of like a very light ultra fine black metal flake in the base color making it look slightly darker with a hint of black.
Ordered a small amount of black pearl candy dry pigment on a knee jerk idea and toying with the thought of either mixing black pearl dry in with base, mixing dry with reducer and lightly covering base, or mixing dry with clear as mid coat. Thinking any of these ways may give me just a very light gray appearance. Mixing black pigment in a midcoat clear looked good on a test panel straight on, but look turd brown at an angle.
Would like to have a "disappearing black rally" with a little sparkle (like the burgandy basecoat). Is any of these possible? Would I be better off utilizing something else to acheive this type of appearance without going lighter OR utilizing other pearl/candy colors of blues, golds, etc. ANY suggestions/idea's will be appreciated.
Sorry about the ramblings of a unskilled person in this area.
