i have done alot of painting with rattle cans even some custom stuff with them but never used a paint gun before. iam going to be paint a car in the next month (1996 trans am) i want a very glassey finish and smooth, nothing to custom yet just a nise finish to work on. what will i need? i know i need a primer and primer filler, base coat, and clear coat. the color iam going to be using is a factory Bright silver metalliac. do i have to buy anything else because its a metalliac? what should i use to prep the surface? what gun should i buy? i was thinking a finishline? what brand paint should i use? can i use the same gun for base and clear and geta a cheap gun for primer? i have a right angle buffer but its a cheap one will it do the trick? what kind of gllazes and pads do i need to gloss the clearcoat back up after i wet sand? basically i would really Appreciate any and all tips and web sites are great also. Thanks in advance John

Ooh lot of Qs.I hear the Finishline is a good gun and should suit your needs but I never used one.If the car is sound just wetsand it and seal and paint it.I use PPG but there are other lines that will give you a great finish.Since you haven't used a gun yet I'd get it and practice a little before going to the car,way too much work and money for a redo.It doesn't take much to run a gun but you want to know how it behaves first.

I went to a paint shop in town and they were kind enough to show me there equipment. The painter liked SATA guns and he said that the paint store had a knock off for $90.00. They use ppg paint . The paint store has teck sheets for free that explain how to mix. I bought one of the guns and I really like it. I also went to the library and found alot of current information.

Good Luck
