Great place here and lots of info. I've been working on painting a motorcycle since last week. I have sanded and primed all the parts and put the color down and clear over the top. well today it looked really bad!! orange peel all over it. So I took the tank and my gun over to the paint store to have them look at it. They said it was the gun "20+" year old using a old turbine sprayer. Worked good 10 years ago. :) Well I ended up buying a new gun and some more clear. Came home and wet sanded 1500 all the pieces. Attached the new gun to my air compressor which i wasnt sure would do the job. Just laided the second coat and waiting 30mins to lay the 3rd coat of clear. Im going to stop on 3 coats. Hope its enough. My question is, tomorrow i plan on useing my polish pad with Meguiers #9 swril remover. What pad should I use? I cant believe the difference between the two guns. It's looking 110% better all ready.

i would have sanded it down w/ 800 before i cleared it again. that would have insured a nice flat surface.

is the swirl remover that fine scratch remover stuff?

are you going to buff the whole thing? the reason for buffing would be to color sand it first. if you're not going to color sand it, i wouldn't even worry about buffing it.

i hit my stuff w/ 1500 then 2000 then wool pad w/ a simi-agressive compound (turbo cut) then i hit it w/ a foam pad (simiagressive pad) w/ a fine compound (finish cut)

the turbo cut and finish cut are wizard products. www.wizardproducts.com
i love the stuff, i set my buffer between the first and second slowest speed and buff. comes out great w/ cearcoats

for dirt specs and orange peel. it might look really good, but there is always a little peel. just to get a perfect finish

the compound that you are going to use might have a hard time getting the 2000 grit shined back up. so i'm not sure what i'd do w/ that compound.

I took the parts out in the sun this morning and its kind of a dull shine. What can I do to bring out the shine? If you know of a better compound and pad please let me know.

there is also the 3m stuff you can get from napa or o'reilies. don't like it much, b/c i'm used to the wizards stuff.

I took the tank to the paint shop to have them look at it. He said what happen was i put to many coats of clear on to fast and didnt give it time to breath. We took it in to the back and he used a copule of products on it. He ended up giving me a bottle of wizard finish cut and dumped some 3M that he used into a bottle. Then I bought a wizard pad. I ended up wet sanding 1500 all the parts to open the pores up and let it sit out in the sun all day. Tomorrow I plan on buffing them. I'll post bikes ASAP.
