New guy with clearcoat questions...

Hi guys! This site is really fantastic and informative. I've been lurking for a while and finally have come up with a valid question.
I've recently painted a car with PPG products. I had finished with 2 coats of DCU2042 clear.
I had some dust issues and a bit of orange peel in spots (I'm a in the garage painting hack) . I have completely wet-sanded the car with 1000 unigrit and am going to re-coat.
Recently, I was visited by a body shop "professional" who told me I was crazy for re-coating with only wet-sanding with 1000 grit. I should have used 600 grit.
Am I a dumbass?? I thought I was going in the right direction. It looks really good in the 1000 grit, to me.

Any constructive criticism welcome. I can never learn enough about paintwork!!

Glad you like the forum.

1000 is fine to reclear over. It probably would have been easier and quicker to use 600 or 800, but 1000 is fine.
The way we normally do it is use 600 hookit II. Then we wetsand with 1000 to get it ready for reclear.

I can see using the 600 making things quicker. My concern of burning thru the clear lead me right to the 1000 (I had "help"). Sometimes it is a bit unnerving watching a friend, albeit the car owner, helping.
I'll try to get some pics up after recoat. Thanks again for the tip.

As Taz said you'll be fine. But if you are concerned about it. You can go over it lighty with a scotch brit pad. For piece of mind, and this will give ya a little more tooth. Na your good to, carry on. Pics man pics, lol.

Good luck to you!

I should have also mentioned when we use 600 DA, we normally just use 600 on the bigger areas and finish off the edges and go back over the areas we did with the DA using 1000 grit

No graphics...a lot of chrome. Kind of a stock looking hot rod.
I still need to run the glaze over it. It did compound out pretty well.
