New Novice Painter with many questions

Well I don't know why I never found this place before but I'm certainly here now. I feel like I just found the right place to get the answers I seek.

I've had a dabble before and nearly went mental trying to paint my Triumph Speed Triple with Alsa Corps Miror Chrome, I got there in the end and swore I'd never paint again. I knew it was a dirty lie when I started buying up spare bodywork from ebay for my Hayabusa.....

Then yesterday the sun came out and I was bored, so I decided to get the petrol tank out and have a little go. I hammerd it back and gave it a coat of etching primer, then a dose of filler primer.

Now I want to explore the following questions. What is the blackest black, should I use a black primer? and how will I best achive the deepest wettest look possible?

Nice site by the way, I think I'll be here for some time :)

Welcome to the CPF!

I'm not for sure if it's the blackest black, but you can try just a straight black toner. What does everyone else use for blacks. We just use the HOK BC25 though. It's not a super black black, but it's still a nice one.
I would definitely suggest putting a couple coats of black sealer down first. This will let you use less black basecoat to cover.

You will need to wetsand and buff it completely flat and completely out using all necessary steps to achieve the deepest wettest look.

if you want the deepest black going there are two that come to mind, One is Mercedes black and the other is by Xotic. Not all black is black.some have sepia tones to them when the light refracts off them. Some have a blue tone. These two I've mentioned are killer blacks. Like looking into a coal pit. Stay with what Taz suggested and you'll end up with one wicked paint job. Oh... and welcome to the forum. So jump in and have fun.

Hi chaps, well I've been at it today and the filler primer is super flat and smooth, my mate popped over to lend a muscle and said it was as smooth as his lady's back side. Whilst I agree she has a fine behind I'd say the tank is better lol. You might have noticed that I had to re-register, suffered some gremlins there but I'm back.

So if I had a can of grey primer and a can of satin black which would you chose for a primer, I see Taz mentions black primer.

Any thoughts?

Hmmmm, just wondering if the black satin you mentioned is a primer. If not, I would not go with that one. So if the grey is all you have on hand as a primer. Yes you can use that one. But still I would go with what Taz suggested, a black primer. I presume you will be using uros, just be sure that the grey primer is not lac based. As it will cause delamination problems if you shoot uro base coat over it. Been there done that. and what a mess, and just to be safe use a 2K primer. epoxy, and you won't have any problems. As Jon Kosmoski of HOK say's 99% of the guys fail at the workbench. Have fun.
