I have a 2006 VW, changed from factory metallic silver to a flattish gréât called nardo grey recently, car had good amount of body work needed so at the same time the guy fixed all of that as well as new paint job front to back.
i was somewhat aware that aftermarket isn’t as durable as factory paint jobs, that being said I have BABIED this car since painting 5 months ago, I don’t let straps finger nails, shoes, or clothing or anything ever touch the paint and park extra extra far for safety, i don’t even come close to tailgating people and drive slow as hell around loose anything on the road if I even go around it.
now fast forward to 5 months in, and I have TINY chips/flakes in multiple places, which is somewhat disappointing of course, I will include pictures, nothing major but I would have expected these things from a couple years in not 5 months into a paint job that’s been babied, maybe couple years of regular use from a normal person but not in this case,
i also recently had a separate body shop paint my lower ground plastics black(just reblackenint), and they are the most popular auto body place around and are fair, after they pulled the 3m masking tape off all around the car it peeled but ONLY on the front plastic bumper, they said they would go through hundreds of cars and rarely see that, they said if they had painted they stand behind it,
the guy who painted my car very nice guy, retired solo painter, has his own shop, big professional looking setup all sorts of expensive equipment, now in retirement he is always working on about 1-3 jobs at once at all times for the most part for about 1 week to couple months each depending of course, so he knows what he’s doing somewhat for sure, hé is also a freind of my grandpas who has been a client of his for decades, and he gave me a VERY fair price for thé work considerably cheaper than any other place,
now my question is how normal is the peeling and chipping and flaking?
How much should I try and get the guy who painted it to fix IF any at all, I don’t want to be rude as he was always fair and such, but this doesent seem like the durability I would have ever expected from this so soon after it’s fresh, the car LOOKS fantastic but it has tiny flaws here and there, and now the clear peeled as well,
what are some options based on all of this as to HOW HARD I should push to have him fix this if it at all? Do I need to suck it up this is the reality if aftermarket paint or maybe this specific paint? Or did he do a poor job somwhere in the process?
Paint/code used was Nardo grey LY7C/T3 not sure if the T3 is relevant
Appreciate any and all honest answers!
if useful i could find the brand of the paint used likely
