New paint job

Hi guys, sorry if this is a stupid question but I have to ask.
One of my winter projects is to paint my 2001 LC from 2 tone burgundy and champagne to all black.
While I was at the hardware store buying house paint I asked (just for fun) the person behind the counter if they had metal paint for cars/motorcycles. He showed me a gallon of Tremclad Antirust Black Gloss Finish and said that this would be a great choice and because of the finish quality and durability of the product I would not have to use a clear finish on top of it.
I think I would still use clear finish but would this type of paint be a good choice for the tins and fairing?
Also, would I need to strip down to the metal or could I just sand off the original clear and start from there?
Thanks,
Pierre

I've never heard of it, so I can't give you too much input.

BUT, when you say you are looking for 'metal' paint, do you mean you want a paint to simulate metal? Or did you want paint to go over metal (no primer).

Since you plan on spraying clearcoat over whatever you use, is there a reason you don't want to use an automotive type paint?

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome.

Tremclad is a type of paint that is applied on metal to prevent rust. They have them in various finishes. I was asking if it would be a good choice to paint my motorcycle's tins.
No reason to not use automotive paint I was just asking if someone had some experience with Tremclad.

Would stripping the original paint to bare metal then priming be better than just priming over the original paint?

If you are using automotive paint to paint over the existing paint, and the existing paint is an excellent condition, no reason to strip.
If it has problems (cracking peeling, or a custom paint job on it), then I would strip it.

If you plan on using the Tremclad and it's made to go over bare metal, you might as well strip it and apply it on it.
