hey all, I've run into a snag. I'm trying out a hok cycle kit through a dealer they sent all that I will need to paint a set of tanks and fenders. The thing is, I applied the two part high build primer and in the process of wet sanding, have sanded through in a few spots and have no more primer.Now I know that it's best too stay with one system and all that jazz..but could I by a cheaper primer at my local store for just one more sandable coat? has anyone done this before with no problems? if so what brand?.......I also have the hok sealer ,would I be ok in applying it without any more primer and sanding then going too paint? ...all suggestions welcome.
Thanks...

I don't know about adding another primer. You'd probably be ok doing that. Whatever you do, don't sand the sealer coat. It should be shot the same day you do the base coat. Shoot the sealer (couple coats) wait for about 1 hour and then shoot your basecoat. Also, if you are shooting a pearl or flake base coat, be sure to shoot a clear over it after it flashes. Intercoat clear works or any clear really. But you shouldn't sand on the pearls and flakes. so you need something on top of it you can scuff up to get ready for your next stage (tape out, artwork, clear coat, etc.)

Hi Bejetts, Shaun here from New Zealand.
So?..... are the sand throughs gone to bare metal or polyester fillers?
Or?........ are they just through to the good original paint ?

If i were you and you did go through to the steel or poly filler then you can go your local bodyshop supplier and buy a good quality 2 pack primer and re-coat just the sand throughs and add reducer to the primer to flow it out and make only
a light scuff off neccesary.

But if the sand throughs are only exposing good quality paint that is underneath your highbuild primer then I would just continue as directed by HOK and you should be sweet

Because the sealer should "seal" it for you without the need of more "primer/filler ", which you shouldnt need ,because the sealer is a primer {but not a filler}
Hope this make sense mate ,

Makes sense!!...thanks guys for the input...I have only two places that went through too metal about the size of a dime. I have enough of the primer that I saved too fill a thimble(small, small amount), I'll shoot the primer with my airbrush on the bare metal then seal and paint.. thanks again!!!.....
