Notre Dame Helmet Texture

Hey guys. My first thread on this site.
Can anyone help me figure out how the texture is applied to this helmet for Notre Dame.
I know the gold chrome is Spectra Chrome. I'm 99% sure that the texture is a clear coat over the top of the gold chrome.
I've tried various textured clears in rattle cans, but none replicate this look. I've also tried hammertone which gives a similar look.
Please help....................

Interesting look. I'd be interested to know to. You might want to first check out the "Alsa" paint website. They always have the off the wall special effect paints, colors, textures....

thanks for the lead. they don't offer anything like this.
any other suppliers that may have something like this?
i'm at a loss. i've got 2 suppliers working on it. neither have something like it.

I would guess this is a goldleaf with the addition of somesort of texture added. Possibly they got the goldleaf to wrinkle somehow. Maybe apply it over a wet clear and just push it down with suran wrap or something
Not for sure. Be anxious to hear what the supplier has to say about it.

ok, i'll be honest with you. i work for schutt the helmet manufacturer. these helmets are finished by a company in oregon. I know 100% the gold is done with the spectra chrome system. the texture is added as a clear coat after the gold is applied. we thought shrink wrap or foam or something but we can't get a smooth consistent texture like this. so that is why we are relatively confident that it is a clear with "hammertone" like properties. neither of our paint suppliers, 2 major suppliers, have anything like this.
i know the company that does them for notre dame finishes wood, metal, and plastic. so i'm curious if it's a process used in another industry that he's applied to the helmet.
thanks again for your help.

Kinda looks like the helmet itself has the texture and it was just painted and cleared over....possibly blasted?

definitely not in the plastic. i can get the paint off down to the plastic. we considered blasting the clear, but have not tried that yet.

well in a way it looks like a water effect like waterdrops / water mist then a light coat of clear was sprayed on it instead of a base color then once the water evaporated they cleared over the whole helmet.

this is just an idea

yelah79 So you don't think this is a wet clear (like a marlbizer clear) with the goldleaf over it when it is still wet? This will give you the 'play' that you can use a very coarse sponge (or something like that) to get the dimples.

Or possibly the gold-chrome is applied over a gravel guard type base
