OK,it\'s time you guys help me out

I do have a dilema though.I'm redoing a friend's FX Springer and he wants to keep the baby blue and add flames that are bold instead of ghosted.I'm kind of thinking using an older slightly yellowish nostalgic white and then putting an overlay of the fine blue pearl that looks white over the whole thing to spruce it up.When I think of other colors to use it seems they will take away from the baby blue base color. He doesn't want anything flashy like metallics and candies so I'm trying to stay with a nostalgic look.I have to keep the price down for him too,I found him a set of tanks for $150 to replace his bad ones and I was only charging him $400 to strip and redo the tank and fenders straight baby blue.I'm thinking about 5&1/2 to flame it and I get his old tanks so I can't get too carried away with materials because he's kind of strapped for $.Thanx for any help guys.

I think what you are suggesting sounds very nice -- pearl white, or kind of antique white like PPG's Vanilla shake?

Another vintage style combo is baby blue and pearl orange -- like HOK's Sunset or Tangelo...

What a nice guy you are to get him such a deal!!

I'm doing one for a buddy right now to save him money and I used the base coat prepped by another painter -- lordy, lordy I will never do that again! It's been twice as much work than if I had done it myself!

Take care,
John

Rex, how about HOK Snowhite pearl or silver white pearl base coats. i had a camaro that was Mauwi blue and silver and it was a real nice combo

I like some of those,I'll have to try a panel to see how they look.I was kind of worried about a metallic or just pearl white would look out of place on the solid powder blue.I guess panels are the only way to tell.I love the tangelo John but I'm having a hard time visualizing that on the blue.Seems it would be pretty gross but sometimes those weird combos really do look good together.Thanx guys.

Hey Rex,
I did a golf cart baby blue with Vanilla Shake scallops, John's right, it's a good compliment color to the blue and does have an understated old school look. I lightly "edged" the scallops with some gold/pewter-ish and it looked pretty sweet.

REX Meister!!! how's Re'nckville? thinking along the antique white theme. Saw a '03 caddy today in that shade with a pearl effect that with the blue flames you were talking about would look "the balls"
