I had clear down pat a month ago. Couldn't make it run. The SW ultra 7000 sprayed great using a mini jet. Yep.. it warmed up since the last time I cleared so, I went to the next higher temp reducer 70-85 instead of 60-75. Anyways.... 85 degrees in my shop and cleared this afternoon and had runs on the first pass.

Is it the warmer it gets, the easier it flows? I would think its the other way around. I didn't want to stay with the cooler / faster reducer because of solvent pop risk... maybe I should have? Just wondered if my theory about clear and temperature is all wrong.

by the way... I don't believe in tack spraying. I want it wet from the first till the last.

I have found that the clear itself before adding hadener and reducer gets thinner in higher temperatures and goes thick when its cold so I change my spraying speed slightly to comensate for this phenonomen.

Dave - I know you don't belive in it - but a tack coat and medium wet coats are the way to go - Then on your final coat work the flow - Sometimes hammering on a wet coat on your first pass can "cut" into any airbrush/art work and ruin it - This especially holds ture with Intercoat Clear -- The thicker you shoot your clear on from the start - the more runs and sags you're gonna have by the end -- Just "build" the coats --- Bones!~

Thanks guys!

I hear ya Bones and I know that you are right when it comes to artwork and tack coats but, I had been hangin around auto painters and they go wet on wet. Guess it was how I was taught to spray and everytime I try the tack method..... I end up with a lot of orange peal and no runs. So whats worse..... yep, I know now. I got runs in the art and at least I can fix them. Spent 2 weeks painting this.

you did great with the jod BUT,like the others say tack it then follow with progressively wtter coats and you'll have no problems "better to sand oranges than the runs" keep up the good work

DAVE NICE JOB ON THE TANK MAN. THAT DEFINITELY ONE KILLER MURAL. I'D HAVE TO SAY I AGREE WITH BONES ON THIS ONE BUT I KNOW HOW IT IS TO HAVE YOUR OWN WAY OF DOING THINGS. TRY BACKING OFF THE FLUID KNOB JUST A HAIR AND SPEED UP THE PASSES A LITTLE. I DON'T HAVE A GOOD HEATED BOOTH SO IT TOOK ME QUITE A WHILE TO GET USED TO THE FLUCTUATION IN TEMP. BUT WITH A LITTLE PRACTICE AT DIFFERENT TEMPS YOU'LL HAVE IT DOWN I KNOW TIME. ONE QUICK QUESTION FOR YA WHAT KIND OF BRUSH AND MASKING TECHNIQUES ARE YOU USING? ONCE AGAIN GREA JOB ON THE ARTWORK.

Thanks Kustom....

Actually I used transfer tape on the tank and Spraylat liquid mask on the fenders. I like the liquid a lot.... never got lines this clean before. Also, I use a iwata HB-SB and HP-C

And Ed.... just click on image and insert a url.

SO YOUR USING THE SPRAYLAT. I TAKE IT YOU'VE SEEN SOME OF THE GOODEVE VIDEOS THEN? TRULY NICE WORK. SO THE MURAL IS BASICALLY ALL FREE HAND? AND YOU GOT ALL OF THAT DETAIL WITHOUT A CUSTOM MICRON?
ONCE AGAIN GOOD JOB.
