One more thing about paint over paint

Taz and others have been a great help on here and I appreciate it immensely. So another question. The bike I'm painting is now black and silver. I will basically keeping the same scheme but will change the black to white and the silver to Candy red. There's no scratches or dent etc. Can I use the silver, with proper prepping, as a base for the candy ? If so should it be sanded first 1500- 2000 to get good adhesion ? I attached a picture of my bike and what I'm hoping to achieve.

You can do that, but the silver of course must be in perfect condition.
I think 1500 is too fine to sand it with. You may want to try like 600 DA, then 1000 grit wet.
Or, you can just use 800 or 1000 grit wet. As long as the surface is dull and sanded with anything around 600-1000 grit.
