Orange Pearl flames over a black or white base ?

All the paints I’m using are HOK. I’ve put down a Black base and was looking to do my flames with PBC-64 Ultra Orange Pearl. While looking at the fender trying to decide which way I’m going to do the flames (this paint job is for my bike) I just thought about something. The color chip in the HOK book is over a white base. So will the Ultra Orange Pearl come out a lot darker over the black base? Not much of a difference would mean I’d have to hold two parts side by side to notice the difference. Which would be fine.

So if it will come out a lot darker will I be better off shooting down some white first? Since I don’t have any white base on hand, could I go with some white sealer? If I go with the sealer I’m assuming I’d have to over reduce it to keep it thin, but would I still need to add the catalyst? Or I have some silver base I could use if it would keep the Ultra Orange Pearl bright?

HoK Pearls are effected by the color they are sprayed on.
If you put orange over black it may come out looking muddy, so I would recommended spraying it over white. I don't think using white sealer would be a good idea, so go out and get some white basecoat. No clue how that orange would appear over silver, so you may want to experiment before painting on your bike. Are you going to pinstripe your flames with a sword brush? If not I would suggest reading Scott's entry, Keeping the flame edge "clean" under Painter Tips. Will help keep a sliver a white from edging the pearl orange.

Hope things work out!

Thanks for the info. I found something to test out the colors on and used some white from a can of striping paint on one side and black base on the other. Big difference. The white side was definitely nice and bright, while the black side had a burnt orange look to it. So off I go to get some white base. Thanks again.
