I wonder what the hech. Why are so many posts that you read why guys are getting orange peel. Could never understand it. I have been painting for aleast 15 years, and can honestly say I have never had to sand orange peel out of a clear coat. Years ago I found a book that was published by some of the well know painters in the 60"s. Sure at that time clear wasn't around and lacquer was used. One of the reasons, according to some of these guys of the day was not reducing enough and using a gun with too big a tip for the size of job. Some guys will shoot a production clear right out of a can and not reduce it or not enought. The same applies to a hi flow clear also. Some of you may think I'm crazy. But if I'm doing a bike I never use a tip bigger than 1.1 and always reduce the clear. This allows me to jump on the color sanding right off the bat with 15-2000 grit and no orange peel. Just thought I'd pass this on as it's worked for me with great results. As Jon Kosmoski says most painters fail at the workbench. Hope this will help some of you. Here's a sample.
