What's up?
Has anyone ever tried using the small splinter or regular splinter flakes? What does that look like underneath kandy paint?

Old School Flake has them in their sample pack. The look like little splinters with a holographic effect. I was wondering if anyone has ever used them before.

Very Cool stuff. I bought a jar of the micro splinter and the sample packs from Nate. If you got money burning a hole in your pocket then check out the gun. The gun is designed to just blow the flake (Dry) on right after you spray your clear instead of mixing it with your clear before you spray.

I just did this fender with the splinter flake. It's really cool stuff, now I just need to clear over it. BTW I used the flake buster gun to shoot it.

Quick update --- to get an idea of how much fun this stuff is to bury in clear, imagine clearcoating your face after you haven't shaved for a week! Since this flake is long and thin, it tends to stand up like whiskers.

I'll let you know how many coats it takes to bury it when I'm done.

Looks interesting from the photos. Keep us updated on the clear coat quantity.

I'm at about 10 coats and counting. It's getting better but I still have a long ways to go. If anyone wants to use this larger splinter flake, my suggestion would be to use it somewhat sparingly. Since this flake is long and rectangular instead of square, it has a tendancy to stick on one end and overlap several other flakes at the other end. This gives the whole surface a texture that is about like a cantaloupe... I think I could have sprayed alot less flake and still got a good effect.

Ya. I have used the stuff too. I bought a jar of it because I thought it was cool. mostly because it was new and deferent. It looked good, but I couldn't believe what it took just to burry it under clear. Any body interested in using it should keep in mind that you will need more than double the amount of clear. I got the rainbow type. Does anybody know if they have any other colors of splinter flake?

I finally got the job done with 13 coats.

I recently got a sample pack of all the OSF flake from innate and the silver prism was the only splinter type in the bunch.

Damn, that's some clear now.The depth aught to be awesome though.I think a few coats of candy would be t**s now but I sure wouldn't want to put a guarrantee on it.

Wow! That's a lot of clear. Do you have any pictures now? What's that stuff look like in the sun? It's got to be different.

Did you spray the lime green flake with the flake buster gun?

I looked at some of the other pics of bikes/projects on the website. Building a Redneck framed bike? Is it yours? That's what I'm waiting on right now. They're supposed to have my sheetmetal and frame done in December. I went with a 8up 5out frame with the 12" over legs and 3 deg. trees. I'll end up having Advanced Plating Chrome the frame but I'm still trying to decide on colors. I know I'll end up painting all the sheetmetal cobalt blue. I'm contemplating the whole metalflake/flames thing.
Your project looks good. Are you happy with the quality of the frame?
