Overlapping Black Ghost Flames Like # 141

Hi,

I'm planning on doing some black ghost flames over a Cinder Red base. Something like Job # 141. I'd appreciate any advice or tips on how you overlap a ghost flame. I believe understand how you would do it with solid flames by using either pin striping, shadows, or both. But the ghost flame being hollow in the center has me unsure. So I figured I'd check here before I go and either do it wrong or the hard way (grin).

I should mention that I have done ghost flames before. It's just the overlapping I'm not sure about.

I would try it like this,
1st - layout your flame and where they overlap cut out the center lines where they cross each other.
2nd. determine which flame will be on top.
3rd. shoot your flame with a detail gun or airbrush, when you get to the "cross-roads" section fade against the tape edge with the paint, so that the area in the center is still hallow.
4th. OK - after you give it some time to dry, use a piece of tape or a hand held mask to shoot the edge of the "top flame" becareful not shoot to much paint near the tape edge from the initial shooting as it will look brighter if you do.
Hope that helps --- Bones!~
