Paint Booth

What do you guys use to improvise for a paint booth. I use the garage and my dehumidifier and pray for a nice dry day. Obviously this takes a lot of time.

I'm pretty much doing the same as you. Using my garage. Before I paint I sweep then blow off the floor. I used to wet the floor down but have had the air hose splash paint in my clear a couple times, so I don't do that anymore. I have a window in my garage, so I stick a window fan unit with a furnace filter in on it to suck some of the overspray cloud out, then I stick a 24" box fan under the rollup door, also with a furnace filter on it, then tape plastic sheeting on either side to seal off the outside. I still get some dust in the clear, but nothing that I haven't been able to wetsand and buff out. I really need something to move more air through the garage though. It gets really cloudy in there, especially when shooting clear on a car. Doing the bike stuff is not bad at all though.

Do a search under 'booth' and you'll get a few discussions that cover just about everything. Most dirt comes from either the thing you're painting or off you and any static sucks it to it,and of course dirty intake air.I think a lot of your dirt is from the intake air(or existing air) and coming off the floor and walls-as you make a pass and come back for the next you have 35-40lbs of air blowing in the air.Anything it ends up hitting like the floor or wall will disturb any dust there and stir it up.Sweeping the floor does the same thing. Before your next job sweep it as usual (walls and all) but then wash it out with the hose if posible. If you think static is a problem-plastic is awfull about it-PPG makes a plastic prep that doubles as an anti-static called DFX 103 (not sure about the DFX part).Mist a coat on before you tack it and after.Works excellent. If you're not sure about static just pass your arm real close to the surface without touching it,you'll feel the hairs on your arm move. Also try taking the fan from the window and put it next to the one in the door. Then you could rig up an intake filter for the window and get a more direct airflow.
