I painted a plastic peice. When I was finished. I started to take my tape off and the paint pulled off clean. Came off in one big sheet. Should I have prepped the peice. If so how.? I feel like a idoit asking this.

Scuff with red scotch brite or 600 grit paper.
Then either prime or adhesion promote.

I had the same thing happen when I painted a polished metal trashcan. I ended up scuffing it really well and applying adhesion promoter. Didn't have a problem after that. I just painted the plastic fenders on my motorcycle. I just scuffed them up with 400 grit (paint was in good shape) and sprayed over it. I didn't think you needed adhesion promoter in that situation but I may be wrong. Painting bare plastic may require adhesion promoter?

I'm sure others will pipe in with a better answer.

Thanks-Stretch

Fenders you'll not need a promoter, I use it mainly on flexible plastics, MX visors usually.

If it's bare plastic whether it's colored or not you need to treat it.Plastic primers are by far the best since most adhesion promoters that aren't actually on the lines of a primer are questionable on performance. If the plastic is painted you can treat it like anything else and sand it.Alot of times if you get certain plastics etched enough by sanding and they are cleaned properly a sealer and bc/cc will stick, but there's certain plastics this will sheet right off of like you had happen.
