Anyone have the paint code for 2002
Impact blue?

It was used on a Harley Davidson Sportster.

Harley dealer says dont have, must get it scanned at paint shop.

Problem is the bike is 3500 miles away.

i had a shop "scan" the paint and mix something close....it was waaay off!!. PPG can cross over harley paint codes and mix you up something.

Harley doesn't have a code system like cars.Tell a PPG jobber the Harley name for the color and they'll make you some. The Prophet and other color scanners are usually only good for a close match.

I haven't really gone through it much for bikes, but we have the PPG touch-mix system at work (its the computerized mixing system for PPG). It does list Harley Davidson, I can look through it and see what it brings up. I'm not saying it has much, but I know Harley is in the system for sure.

I got a color sheet with Harley color names and PPG paint numbers from the local PPG dist. It only lists colors from 1990-1999. I was told older or newer colors would be listed in their computer by color name. One thing I found out recently is they don't have all of the 2002 & 2003 colors available commercially yet. I needed the 2003 Gunmetal pearl, it wasn't in their computer. My dist called PPG and was told this color formula wasn't available commercially yet. Another thing, those Harley factory "custom" shop jobs don't have PPG codes. I don't know if you can get them from Harley or not. I have matched one using HOK candies and pearl base. Good luck, TC

TC,I'll have to pin down my rep again about them.I believe the custom sets are done by an outside vendor in limited production sets.

Rex I'm pretty sure Harley contracts the "custom" jobs to an outside shop. Who it is and what paints they use, I don't know. I do know the Gunmetal paint from Harley is available in touchup bottle 1/2 oz, rattle can (acrylic lacquer) and by the qt with required catalyst ($145 paint+cat). The rattle can is close... but isn't an exact match and hard to blend into the factory paint. TC

Punched it in the touch mix today, Impact blue 2002 Harley PPG code 195343. OEM code s28685, I looked at the formula should be a nice looking blue. What you were told sounds right, I only brought up 3 colors for 2002. I punched in 1991 and it brought up about 20 colors.
One thing to note on the color. The touch mix brought up a warning on any amout of paint less than 32 oz. ( 1 Qt.) thats unreduced. Which basically means they don't recomend mixing less the a quart of that color.

That must be nice Austin,I'm jealous. We're too far out in the pastures for that kind of stuff to be standard equipment.

Yeah, it really is nice, I tend to take it forgranted how nice I have it at work. I work at a shop that has a lot of up-to-date equiptment, plus 3M stops in about 2-3 times a year and has us test out "in developement" products, its pretty cool. With that touch mix we mix all our own paint as little as 2 oz, plus its set up to mix clear, primer, and sealer on the same system.
