That's pretty limiting there. That pretty much excludes Sata and Iwata guns. In my experience, I know a couple of guys who dig Sharpe guns. I know one guy pretty much sticks with the Titanium T1, which is quite a bit above your planned budget as well. I don't have any personal experience or knowledge of the Finex model, nor the DeVilbis kit. Both companies make decent products, Maybe someone else here can steer you in the right direction for that price range.

Please list all start up costs for a paint job

ok will a Devillbiss finishline kit (http://www.tcpglobal.com/spraygundepot/devmstrkit.aspx) be good enough for a tank and fender job? Just want to do a flame over for now but I have metal to practice other creativity. Do i need a compressor or will my garage compressor due? If so how much are they? do i just scuff my existing clear to get the fames to adhere better? Any direction to this new hobby will help alot Thanks

I did some asking around today, and, for the price, the Finishline kit sounds like a good way to go. I talked to several painters who use these guns, or have used them, and they all had positive things to say about them.

As for your compressor, I don't know what your garage compressor is. I can, however, tell you that full sized HVLP guns like a lot of air (HVLP=High *Volume*, Low Pressure). I see the Finishline guns are only looking for 13 CFM @ 23 PSI.

For tanks and fenders, you don't have a need for continuous output over a long period, so, a 5 HP compressor with a 30 gallon tank would work fine.

If you were painting an entire cars, you'd probably want a 100 gallon tank (or more), ideally. I know a guy who does completes with an 8 HP 80 Gallon compressor... but the HVLP gun *does* go through enough air to run the tank down and kick the motor on during the paint job.

Do i need a water trap for the system I buy?

Need? No.
Should have? Yes.

Plenty of painters manage without one. If you are to be among them, just remember to open the pet**** on the bottom of your air taink and release any water that has collected. Depending on how humid it is in your area, you may want to do this more or less often. I just drain mine before each use.

Remember not to do it when you compressor is all cranked up and full to max capacity. I usually bleed all the air out of my tank when I am through using it. So, before I start it up for the next use, I open the drain valve, let the water out, close it, then fire up the compressor and let it fill.
