I am wanting to do a flame paint job like the one in the samples part of this sight. It says that it has a copper colored base with candy apple red flames but the tank is so dark. My guestion is how did they get such a dark effect on this tank, it looks much darker than copper.
Thanks
Mike

Many coats of Candy apple red over the top. Probably more than 7 or 8 coats of the copper base. Just my guess.

But do you think that he started with a black base then layed out the flames and sprayed them copper then candy apple red over everything ?

Mike Dursky,

I'm pretty sure your right. It looks like a black base with gold(copper) flames then kandied 3-4 coats.

If you are talking about "Reference Number 127", this was done with a gold base, then about 4 coats of brandywine. Tank looks darker because of the lighting. Outside it really comes alive!

Hey Mike,
Actually, I worded it wrong

. I used a black base, then I airbrushed the copper color on the flames. Then I coated the flames with the candy brandywine.
Sorry for the confusion!
