JIm, how is the color off? Light, dark, you might not have enough color on some parts or their edges so you might have a see through problem, actually not covering the sealer or base color 100%.

Hey EZ,Been a long time.Hope everything is going well in the East!I shot the fenders first,I think I was going a little too fast, I think it's a bit light.it's more of an orange than red.I want to sand and shoot them again but, will one coat do it ?I only did two coats like the tech sheet said.should of went three. What do you think?

No sealer, straight over HOK gray epoxy.

Jim, all is well over here, how about you? Reds for the most part cover very poorly, i like to shoot them over a white base but with some reds that dosent even help. this is also why i like shooting cars mostly assembled with the exception of bumper covers and moldings and stuff like that. you cant always go with the recomended 2 coat theary, i never only put 2 coats of color on no matter what color .some reds are extremly transparent and could take up to 6 - 7 coats of color, the paint manufacturers will disagree with this but its true. me personally , if it were my chevelle i would assemble the body panels and shoot the whole thing at the same time, probily not the answer your looking to hear

Things would be alot better if I get this damn car done.
Your right, not the answer I wanted.but I want it right. The car is back together as far as the panels go.I was thinking the same thing but, will it match?I touched up a spot on the tip of the fender and it looks better(redder),maybe I'll just shoot one fender and see if it's acceptable.I used Dupont chroma-base with HC7600 clear,I can sand in 2hrs.I was going to use a white sealer, but the paint guy told me I didn't need it!thanks,Jim

Damn, that's kind of odd using the same batch of paint Jim.Granted temp and humidity play a role but solid colors usually aren't a prob.By your description I'd say the fenders are a coat shy of the rest.Like EZ said alot say 2 coats are good but 3 is the safe bet.I usually use a lt grey under red and all's fine, but usually the problem reds are pearls or metalllics.Occasionally a solid is transparent but not that bad. There is a red PPG tint that's awefull but in DuPont I can't say.

Hey Rex!How's it hangin?Looking at the fender,I think I went a little fast with the gun, definetly a coverage problem.Got a question though, since it's a solid and not candy, once it gets covered,it should'nt get any darker with more coats right, just lighter if you don't have enough? If I can,I'd like to 400 wet everything, put anther coat on the fenders, dust everything else, then clear the whole car again. If this don't work, maybe a stick of Dynamite will !!!!!

Before you pull out the fireworks I'd maybe consider trading a fast scooter-sorry,the OL won't let that happen. You're right, once it's covered on a solid color you're good 99% of the time.Personally what I'd do is if you figure you're a coat shy on the fenders blow them again and compare to the doors and hood.If all's cool you're done but if you want to reclear sand with 600 (I'd do the 6 instead of 4 for the fender too) and lay another 2 coats on,back off a touch though because it will slide. If for some reason that 1% FUBAR happens with the match the next thing is as you say-base the nose, throw a coat over the rest and reclear. It's a tough call at times, especially if you need to buy more base and clear over what's left over.

Hey Rex,I sprayed the fenders again the other day, they came out fine,i was worried for nothing.ya,I did use 600.Ok,no fireworks!I'm even gettin better spraying clear! If it wasn't for some dust,I wouldn't wetsand....well maybe a little but,I am laying it down smoother. Some new chrome and the outside is just about done.I'm even happy with my quarters.I learned alot from doin this thing. It's great to get the advice but, there's nothing like on the job training!Thanks,Jim-P.S. If I trade this Chevelle for another bike,MY OL would shoot me!For the last 8months,she's seen the dog more than me!

I guess I could sleep in the back of the Chevelle and hold the beer by the air conditioner vent if I had to

But we won't go there!
