Paint Prep for Fiberglass Bodies

I have a CJ with a full fiberglass body that I would like to paint. It is currently painted and what I need to know is how to properly prep it (I'm not going to do the paint myself, but I figured I could save some money doing the prep). My plan is just to sand it down with an orbital sander with 400 grit paper, will that work ok? Also, would it be hard on the fiberglass to sand it and leave it bare for a couple of months, or would the rain and sun damage it? Thanks for the help.

You should be fine on sanding with 400. If you are going with a solid color like a red, white or black, you could even start with 180, then finish sand with 320.
You also should be find with just leaving it for a few months since it's all fiberglass.
