paint problems, any help would rock

hey guys, i am fairly new to painting and keep running into problems,
ok so i am painting 16g pressed steel, rolled into a shield, i am using vehicle paint in spray can form, i know i need to upgrade, but i am doing these to afford the better stuff, any way this is the process,
i cut the shields with a cad plasma torch, roll the shields and grind the edges clean, i wet sand the front and back, weld on teh handles and after it dries, wipe it off with alcohol and prime it, wet sand then let it sit, after its dry i put a few coats of white on it, after i let that dry i tape it to be painted but ALWAYS after pulling the tape i pull a perfect line of white paint off the primer, and have to start over... even really good shields end up with small amounts of primer showing, whats the deal? can ANY one help me out here, i am loosing money on time and paint, having to buy more that what i needed...
is there a better type of primer or paint to use?
thanks guys!

so the paint is pulling off and leaving the primer? or is the primer coming off too? if the primer is left behind, it's adheasion problems. you need to use 800 grit to scratch up your primed surface before painting. and maybe your rattle can paint isn't fully cured also, it could feel dry at the surface but not hard at the bottom.

BC/CC is better. you can go to your local paint place and get pints of base coat (BC) and quarts of clearcoat. it won't cost too much and it is practice w/ materials that you're going to use. I know you've got to start somewhere, but all my rattle can practice stuff was pretty much free work. just practice. i think there are some good rattle can stuff, but i don't think too many people use it that are in the auto paint business.

are you making money on this rattle can stuff? if you are remember that it might not last as long as the good stuff, and it's your reputation that bring people back to get paint jobs, so if you are using materials that aren't going to last, it doesn't matter what equipment you have later, nobodies going to want a paint job that is rumored not to last.

good luck w/ your journey!

thank you very much, is BC/CC a brand or type of paint? is it also rattle can or spray gun? i am up to trying anything, and i dont have a heat booth but i was told that a heat fan will help it to cure faster, and i think the 800grit sounds good, how long between primer, then white then other colors should i wait?
thank you!

what auto shops do you have close to you? napa? oreilies? House of color?
BC=base coat CC= clear coat, and these paints need a gun to shoot them out of. i recomend a 1.3 tipped gravity feed gun. but what ever you have will have to work.

How long to wait??? it depends on the paint you use. w/ bascoat, you can paint/tape on it in about 10 min at the appropriate temperature. that's one of the reasons i really like the stuff. quality and shine w/ the CC.
