I need some help with a setup for my gun and stuff please. I am painting a 68 Mustang. I am using all PPG paint products. The car is already primered and reay for paint. Here are the facts:
Deltron DBU universal basecoat
DRR1185 Reducer
Clear DCU 2010
Hardener 2.1 Speed Clear
Gun: Sata HVLP Digital 1.5 tip

What should my setting on my gun be for both the basecoat, and clear coat (fluid, pressure, etc.)? What ratio should I mix the base for opimal color It is Silver Metalic. It says to mix 1 part DBU(color) to 1 1/2 parts DRR(reducer), but the paint shop said to do 1:1. What do you guys think? I aasume to mix the cleat 2:1 just like it says. I was gonna do 3-4 coats of base, and 4 coats of clear. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Most of the PPG basecoats are 1:1, that should be sufficient. 2010 clear ratio is 4:1:1 I usually go 4:1:2 parts reducer, to get it to lay down flatter. Wipe the car down really well and tack it off really well. That sounds like enought paint and clear, IMHO. I'm sure others will be along shortly with more info.

As I remember DBU it was 125-150% mix,and for silver I'd run 150 with about the next slowest reducer you'd want but ask EZrider since he uses it for a wise choice.Depending on the silver it should take no more than 2.5 to 3 coats for coverage and then clear as normal.I don't know that clear but it sounds fast so i'd clear it and sand it down for a flow coat of something a little slower.Fast clears and car overalls don't get along well, cool for spotjobs but you need something slow to blast the whole thing to keep it wet to get around it.
