Paint stripper? Best kind to use...

Greetings all,
I'm a newbie at this so I could use the help of you experts. I have an old cycle I am customizing and want tp repaint the tank. Problem is the former owner repianted the tank at some point. They must not have used the right type of paint since an apparent gas spill on the tank ate awayt the paint they applied. I'd like to take the tank back donw to bare metal and start off right, so I know that the layer of paint won't conflict with eachother. What would be the quickest way to strip the tank down to metal? I tried sanding but after 15 min made little progress other than to gum up a buch of paper.
Suggestions?
TIA

You can try 'aircraft stripper', but this method is very messy and time consuming. If you have two fenders and a tank, it will probably take you 2-3 cans. I would suggest just looking for a local place that would 'media-blast' the parts. This will run about $100-$150. Plus you dont' even have to do the work...well worth it.

Either way, make sure you prime them asap once you get them to metal.

Thanks Taz. I have some aircraft stripper I can try (used it on some aluminum parts and they look great) I'll give that a shot. Although having someone do the dirty work for me sounds good too :)
Thanks again.

Taz is right, sand blasting is the way to go if you can afford it or pass the cost on to the customer, but if your $$$ challenged like me, the stripper works good and I've done many sets that way. My suggestion would be to use 80 grit on a DA to take off most of the clear, as it's harder than hell and requires several coats of stripper to eat through . The 80 grit will give " bite " for the stripper to hang on to and cut down on your labor time
Good Luck..........Mowe
