Hi guys,

I went down with my Black motorbike last week. This left a dent on my front fender.I got the dent removed and the whole fender painted. As I was going back home that day, there was a hailstorm and heavy rain which left small marks on the newly painted area.

Next day,I went back to the painter,he used rubbing compound to take the marks out.But the paint has now become dull.Is there any way out? The painter says he'll use lacquer over it and that should do the job.Whats your take on this? Will I eventually end up having to repaint it entirely?Or is there a way out.

Possibly they just 'hand' buffed it' with a coarse polish or compound.
Shouldn't be any need to repaint the fender.
Sounds like all the painter needs to do is rebuff it and do a more thorough job.
He'll need to use a machine buffer with compound. Then he'll need to use a machine buffer with polish.

Yes they hand buffed it.But before that they used a rubbing compound and sandpaper to remove the rain spots. The spots were removed but the paint too got dull.

Anyways, whats with this lacquer he was talking about? Is it put over the existing paint to bring shine?

noctofrost. I have no idea what he plans on doing. You may want to ask him.
If I had to guess, I would say he mean to reclear it, but not for sure.

If it was me, I would just buff the fender out and be done with it.

Hopefully, he can just machine buff and polish it for you. I would think he could do it while you waited.

I went to the paint guy today.Turns out he had used the 'dull black' paint instead of the 'glossy black' kinda one on my motorcycle. Its good that he accepted his mistake. He's now gonna repaint it .For FREE.

I normally have the customer bring back the part or bike after two weeks, so I can machine buff it again after the clear has hardened for the two weeks. I've noticed that when they bring it back sometimes the clear has a lot of fine scratches due to the clear still being some what soft when they take it. Just running your finger over clear after two days can leave fine scratches.

Hmmmm, okay, it sounded like at the beginning that it was shiny until you went back and he took compound over it. That's when it got dull.
Nevertheless, glad he's taking care of it for you!!!
