Painting Aluminum

I want to clearcoat aluminum heads and intake manifold, (small block chev motor), to retain the fresh aluminum look. Any hints on how to make it stick? For color coats I have had good success using PPG DCC but haven't done just clear.

POR-15 makes a clear specifically for this. It sticks to polished surfaces,withstands the underhood heat, and doesn't yellow.

I've cleared quite a few beadblasted intakes with 2042 or 2021 and they've held up well to this day after years of service but I never tried it over a polished surface.

The POR-15 product is called Glisten PC. Here is a quote from the literature;
"A Brilliant Two-Component Clear Coating

GLISTEN PC is a High Gloss, Rock Hard,
Water-clear topcoat designed for spray or brush
application over all metal surfaces, including highly
polished aluminum and chrome surfaces. GLISTEN
PC will not leave brushmarks, and will dry in less than
one hour, but will take 3-4 days to reach maximum
hardness. "

A good trick is to add extra hardener to the clear, it will help it hold up better with the heat!

I'v don valve covers in candy and clear, but I did get that yellowing to it after awile, and it just keeps getting worse. Next time I'll try PRO-15's clear and mix in some candy consentrates.
