Painting aluminum

I know just about anything can be painted, so here I ask. I want to paint the lower portions of the forks on my motorcycle. They are aluminum and appear to not have anything on them like clear coat. Do I need to do anything special to paint aluminum? I want to paint them a black, probably flat black.

they make a metal prep that you wipe over the surface after sanding. your local paint supply should carry it.

You can also use a Zinc Chromate primer. I know they sold it in spray cans before. Spray just a light coat over the alum once you sand and clean it. Then you can primer over the chromate...this is if they still sell it.

If I remember right, the complete body on a Acura NSX is alum. I remember 10 years ago our shop paying $1600 for a fender.

Can I use etching primer? I ask as I have plenty from doing my tank/fender. Would this also work? Thanks for the help.

I would think that would be alright. It should say on the label if it works for alum.
:luck:
