Painting an engine

First off I want to say hi to everyone. Being really new to painting, except rattle can paint jobs on different things, I have a question about painting an engine. I want the engine in my truck to match the exterior color. I'm planing to paint the truck a metallic green. What type of paint do I use? Can I paint the engine with regular automotive paint? I know that the original engine color for a '53 merc engine is green but not the color I want to paint the truck.
Thank you in advance for your assistance

Hello Bill,
Welcome to the forum.
I had a truck that I had built in which I painted the engine the same color as the truck.
I used the same paint and clear. The motor was rebuilt so it was spotless when I painted it.
I do not recommend this if you are just painting over a previous paint job on a motor.

I had no problems with it.

So be sure you use a good grade bc/cc type paint for both
At the time, I had used Glasurit 54 line paint.

just make sure you get that engine spotless,do a Taz suggested and you won't have any problems.

Thankyou for the replies. The old flathead isn't running right now and is definately getting rebuilt/hotrodded. It will be hot tanked and totally flushed inside and out, so I wiill be starting with a totally clean engine. Thanks again.
