Painting flames on already painted truck??

What is the process to do this?? I dont want to re-paint the whole thing at this time but am going to put some flames over it. How do I scuff it where I need it to be and not scuff where the paint will still be. How about using clears?? do I need to clear the whole thing or the area around the flames???

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

It all depends on how good you want it to look as to which way to paint it.

You can go the cheap way, but you'll have an edge and the flame won't look as professional because of the edge - Layou out your flames with 3m blue fine line tape - then scuff it up with a scotch-brite pad - shoot your colors and clear - the try to remove your masking as quick as possible - it won't leave as bad an edge

I'd do it the professional way and just re-clear the whole thing - but I'm a perfectionist == Bones!~

I would scuff the whole panel, then pre-clean the panel, layout flames using 1/8th inch 3m blue fineline tape, then cover area thats not going to be painted, spray adheasion promotor in flame area, lay down flame color, pull tape soon like 10 min after baseing (it leaves a cleaner line), then blade my lines with a razor blade if needed, if you know how. I would then spray adhesion promotor over whole area and clear the whole panel.

Blading lines...take a razor blade, round off the edges with 400 grit, then rub the sharp edge over back and forth both ways on 400 grit, then make a handle on the upper edge of the blade with tape by wrapping around the none sharpened edge. Take the blade lay it flat with the paint holding on to the tape only and carefully move by sliding razor along the ruff edge. move very slowly only in the areas that have rough tape edges. This technique works wonders after a little practice and helps reduce the tape edge for clear build up.

Thank u for the blading scoop, u know iv'e painted a lot of bikes but i have some problems still when I'm doing over and under useing pearls because Idon't like sanding any of my pearls. thanks again
