Painting Gelcoat

I just bought a new fiberglass hood Ram Air from R&K Sport for my Corvette. I was reading from the mfg. not to sand the gel coat. I have never heard this before. I would think as a mininum you would need to sand it with 600 and then apply some primer sealer to it in preperation for painting. Any experiance or comments.

Don't see why they would say not to sand it. Maybe their gelcoat is very thin?!

We do trike bodies all the time that are gelcoated. We simply 180 DA it, prime the body, resand, then seal and paint.

Thanks Taz, Yeah that's how I'm going to go at it. I going to spend a lot of time on the graphics and I don't want to take a chance on paint coming loose after all the work.
