Painting over a gelcoat

Well,I got the truck bed done and it came out great, thanks! Now it's time to start my buddy's Motorhome,I'm going to repaint the bottom, remove the stripes and add a modern swirl design. The panels are smooth fiberglass and the color is in the gelcoat,My question is, would this be a normal 400 prep or do i need to do something differant?I have to strip all the paint on the aluminum framing on the bottom and want to epoxy it along with the rest of the bottom(basement)panels before I spray. as far as the top goes,I would like to lay out the design, scuff or sand and shoot either b/c or one shot,I'm not worried about the edge, most motorhomes have some decals anyway.Jim

I am new to this site, but have been painting cars for 20 yrs, lots of fiberglass hoods that use gel coat, so I will give you my experience. Scuff sand, and use a SEALER / primer and re-spray the base coat, then clear...or use the sealer and shoot on some single stage enamal. Just don't paint directly on the gel coat.
