painting over factory plastics

So im trying to paint my stock gloss black speed triple to matte or satin black. the 2006 oem paint is still perfect with 1 small chip. All parts are plastic and the side panels are somewhat flimsy. I was really hoping that i didnt have to sand it all down to the plastic. can i just lightly sand the original clear coat, 2k primer, basecoats, satin clear coat.

sorry if this is an elementary question. this site is so vast its hard to search simple questions!

thanks in advance -

Since your base is perfect except for that chip, I would suggest just sanding with 600DA (hookit 2) and then 1000 grit wetsand. Spot in that chip (feather it out first of course).
Then spray the clear with the flattening agent.

If you want to just make sure you don't get any gray spots or something weird happen, spray a couple coats of black basecoat before the clear.

As long as your current paint job is perfect and you clean and sand it correctly, you won't have any problems.
