painting over matte black

Hello,
I have a job to paint a airbrushed barracuda design over the matte black hood of a '70 cuda. The owner wants the hood to remain matte when finished but the design will need to be cleared when done. Question is.. does anyone know of a quality clear coat that won't be glossy when cured? If not (likely), does anyone know of a way to prevent the ridge that will build up at the edge of the design? Anyone have any luck with feathering a clear coat maybe?

Thanks!

You can add a gloss reducing agent in most any clears. The more you add, the more it will reduce the gloss. I would try a test panel first to make sure you get the results you want.

Once you spray the hood with this clear, you can buff the area of the airbrush work to give this area gloss.
