hey guys im new to this site, and im glad iv found it!!!!!

iv been painting custom for a while and have my own project to complete.... i want to do ripping chequered flags from the front wings, down the doors and onto the rear quarters..... im very confident that the paint will go fine, but masking options are hard to choose.....

so far i have 3 options.....

1. use frisket masking film to lay on the car and cut out the chequered squares......

2. use fine line tape to make the grid and individually mask out the negatives.... iv found with this method, that there are slight gaps between the squares......

3. use 2" masking tape and cut onto that.....

im on a strict budget and i know that frisket paper is expensive! :sillyme:

HAS ANYBODY MASKED HUGE LAYOUTS OF CHEQUER FLAGS BEFORE AND HOW DID YOU DO IT???????? I NEED HELP GUYS!!!!:freak:

option 1 or 2.

when using fine line tape, run 2 pieces side by side for each line. this way you can cut out the insides and have nice sharp corners.

opt. 1 make sure your frisket stick well, b/c sometimes when you over lap they don't stick well. also use a compass w/ two pencil sides and run your lines down the frisket. you can have freedom of a wave and it goes swiftly. you just have to be good w/ a razor blade.

i would actually use both.

first i'd lay out the frisket and get my overall flag shape, after that i'd come back w/ the fineline tape paint my checkers, take it off and do my shadowing.

good luck whatever you choose. their's no right way, just the way u choose and is fastest and makes most sence to you.
