How would I go about painting my taillights on my new 2004 Chevy truck. I want to paint them black. I have seen this on other cars and trucks. Thanks in advance.

I painted a black border on my 90 Chevy's tails.
Clean the lenses, scuffed with 800 wet, taped out and shot the black base then cleared the entire lense. Turned out nice.

go somewhere like an arts and crafts store and look for some spray paint thats used to make a stained glass look and get black or whatever color u want. it will be transparent so ur lights still glow but they will be smoked if u use black. i think testors make some transparent model car paint in a spray can that works the same way. this link should be helpful http://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech_projects/taillights/index.html

Looks cool...but is illegal in most states. Most laws require the light to show red when on. Tinting changes the color, hence they don't meet the ordinance.

If it shows red when you step on the brake AND is visible from at least 300' in normal sunlight, you're probably OK. At least that's the ordinance here is Kansas, but most states have similar laws. Might wanna check with the local PD to be sure.

Usually it's not something you'll get stopped over, but if you become involved in an accident and have an equipment violation (even as minor as a tinted tail/stop light) you can draw unwanted liability because the other driver's lawyer can say, "My client didn't see him because his taillights weren't red." Then you get blamed for causing the crash, your insurance company doesn't want to pay, etc.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, you just need to be aware of the potential problems, regardless of how remote they may be.

Words of wisdom from Andy, they look cool but CYA.Same with the old smoked covers, they'll burn you if you're in an accident.
