I WILL BE USING PPG OR OMNI TO SPRAY IN GHOST FLAMES ON THE FRONT OF A CIVIC. I WAS CURIOUS IF IT WOULD BE BETTER TO MIX THE PEARL POWDER IN WITH REGULAR CLEAR OR USE A CLEAR BASE FOR MIXING. I KNOW PPG HAS DBC 500 FOR MIXING BUT WAS CURIOUS WHAT SOME OF THE LONG TIME PROFESSIONALS USE. I'D LIKE TO USE THE CLEAR BASE FOR THE LOW BUILD UP SO IT WILL BE EASIER TO FLATTEN THE TAPE EDGE WITH THE FINAL CLEAR COATS

I use PPG D895 (from the global line) or HoK inner clear SG-100 for mixing clears. I like the HoK better though.
For pearls, I switched from PPG Global (i.e. D763 Blue Pearl) to HoK pearl pastes and powders. They are very strong so mix lightly if using a powder or paste to achive true ghost flames. There is a fine line, it's better to bring them out (the flames) in light stages if your not use to using a certain pearl or new to them.

then 2-3 coats of top clear, knock it down with 600(be careful), 2-3 more coats, wetsand & buff and you'll have a smooth finish with no tape edge

There's also a few advantages to using base clear. It seems the pearl settles more in top clear when you hang up the gun between coats, and it tends to mottle easier.

I would suggest using the (DBC/DBU 500 depending on you base coat system I think Omni probably also has a similar product also) for your pearl. Youll have less mils and there will be no issues when wet-sanding.

Omni doesn't package it premade like DBC/DBU,but they can make it by mixing the tint clear with the clear binder 50/50.DBC 500 can be made off the mixing rack by mixing DMD649 clear with 689 binder 50/50 and DBU is the 649 with the DBU specific binder. If anyone has the mixing system it's cheaper than buying it prepackaged.
