My bike has decal pinstripes under the clearcoat and although it's smooth you can feel the edges.Do I have to strip the parts completely or can I sand through the clear and remove the stripes or what?I'm going to change the bc color so I've got to paint the parts anyway but I don't want to do more prep work than I have to.Thanks.By the way, this forum rocks!

ON CAR REPAIRS I COME ACROSS THAT THE PINSTRIPE HAS BEEN CLEARED OVER OR MASKED OUT EITHER SIDE AND PAINTED AGAINST IT IS A PROBLEM THAT TAKES QUITE ALOT OF WORK TO REMOVE AND REPAINT SO THAT IT IS UNOTICEABLE.
THE STRIPE HAS TO BE FULL REMOVED THEN USUALLY BE PRIMED ON THE AREA IT WAS TO FILL IN THE LOW SPOT THAT IS CREATED BY SANDIND IT OUT.
IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SAND THROUGH THE CLEAR AND THEN PULL OFF THE STRIPE .
MAKE SURE YOUR FEATHER OUT THE EDGES PROPERLY WHERE THE STRIPE WAS OR ELSE IT WILL BE A SEEN LOW SPOT WHERE YOU SANDED.
WIPING WAX AND GREASE REMOVER AND LEAVING IT WET AND GETTING DOWN ON ANGLE AND LOOKING AT THE REPAIR WILL HELP SHOW UP LOW/HIGH SPOTS AND RIPPLES.
