I never thought much about any paint over rust stuff but,Since I got a Chevelle to restore,I've read alot about POR-15,almost sounds too good to be true,It says you can top coat it an comes out smooth, holds up very well to rock chips etc... Question is,Has anyone used it,how did it turn out and is it as good as folks say?

I've heard of it but can't remember anything about it.I"m thinking it's a primer like deal you spray or brush on.What do they say about urethane based systems sticking to them?I use and acid based product called Ospho that you wipe over the rust after you get all the heavy scale and dust off of it and then I epoxy prime it the next day.Works great but you can't break through the top layer of it if you sand through the epoxy if you're doing any bodywork in the area and it's a pain to get in tight places like the bottom inside of doors because it builds up and takes a lot longer to dry.

Rex,Here's their site, looks good for frames and floorpans, inner fenders and all the stuff you want to look good under the car.Just wish someone who used it would reply and let me know what they thought of it.Check out thier other products, they look pretty good.I hope I'm not crossing any boundries by posting this site.It just looks like we could all use this for something or other,it says for motorcycle frames too and rock chip proof.

Looks great so I bookmarked it.I think it'll be great for anything but the areas you'll be painting like the exterior and jambs.Sure seems like the stuff to use on the frame and inside stuff to make it last.I'd like to know how people like it myself along with their tank sealer compared to Kreem.Oh,posting links to that stuff is fine, only email adresses, personal websites and sites that would be in competition with Scott's buisness are taboo.Basically info is cool but advertising isn't.

That stuff is intended for use on chassis and underbodys and ect. There is another company that has what they call chassis saver and it is made by Magnet Paints. This paint can be applied over rust and it dries as smooth as glass (applied by brush) and is also very flexable. It probably has it uses but not recomended under body paint.

Ive used POR 15 inside doors, under body etc. u must etch it with their tie coat primer, then use the conventional paint system over top. A little bit of a a pain because of the drying time and recoat times. I have had no probs with acrylic paints over the top.

i've used the por15 quite a few times and it really is as good as they say it is. here's my recomendations. first i would only use it on spots you wont see the frame and floor pans etc. secondly it is uv sensitive so if any of the spots you use it on are going to see light you should top coat it. top coating involves tie coat primer applied over the original por15 as some else said. the stuff smooths out on its own really well. if you only use a little at a time put saran wrap over the can and then put the lid on because if you don't you probably won't ever get it opened again. this stuff is really tough you can hit it with a hammer and it doesn't chip. and lastly and most importantly buy a good pair of rubber gloves, thick ones because medical ones wont hold up. do yourself a favor don't get any on ya because if it dries it doesn't come off with anything but time. you don't want to be walking around with black hand for three weeks trust me i've been there.
