pounce wheels

Was wondering what kind of paper most people use when using a pounce wheel and chalk to duplicate a flame pattern on the other side of a project. Is it the thin green masking paper or something else. I have been having problem getting the chalk to go through the holes.
Thanks in advance

I found some liqued chalk at a quilt store when looking for ponce wheels. It works pretty good, but you have to sand the other side of the frisket to open up the holes. You can also use chalk used in carpenters " chalk lines ", but check the label to see what level of permentance it has. Some is much more durable and harder to wash off before painting. Check your local hardware store. Good Luck....Mo

I'd just buy some chalk that you'd find in a hobby store that kids use to draw on concrete or a blackboard. That's what I use to draw on my tanks. Figure it'd work just as well and it's cheap.

Thanks for the responses. I have been trying "chalk line " chalk but the problem I am having is getting the chalk to go through the pounce wheel holes. I have been trying "craft Paper". Nice to draw on but kind of thick and the holes dont seem to let the chalk through. I am going to try the green masking paper and see how that works. The frisket would be great because you can sand it like you said, but I do a lot of compound curved surfaces like helmets and frisket wouldn't work on them. Thanks for the help.

I use the carpenter's chalk, have for a long time, works with pretty much any masking paper, but i found that the newer white paper being thinner works a little better. I just take my chalk bag and pat the paper, goes thru every time.

take a cloth rag ( white t-shirt type rag), make a pocket in your hand with it, fill it with chalk, close it up, wrap tape around where it is closed, to keep it closed. Whack it a few times until the chalk starts to come thru the cloth.

you could also take some cloth and sew up a littlebag, like a bean bag, but fill it with chalk.

A sock might work too, try one made out of thin material. you want the chalk to be able to come thru when you pat it.
