I'm getting ready to clear my tank and wonder if anyone out there has used PPG Pearl Power in there clear? Do you or can you wet sand it like regular clear? How does it look when your done? All help will be appreciated.

I haven't used ppg but,I have used pearl powder with HOK,Do not sand on it!Spray your pearl then, spray another couple of coats of straight clear.then you can sand. When you spray your pearl,be careful, the more you put on,the lighter it gets.Hold your gun back and try to dust it,if you don't get complete coverage, wait til it tacks and then hit it again,if you try to spray on more before it tacks, you'll have a mess. The pearl doesn't run but,it will blow too close together and looks like a run.Been there, done that.

I've used PPG purple pearl powder in clear over a black base. Looked sweet.

I would like to add a question on powder in clear.I am spraying a harley tank with factory decal .Would any one know what effect over the decal I would get by adding a layer of pearl powder on one of the last coats.

It depends on what your looking for,if you mix say 1/2 a thimble in a gun full of clear,(don't mix it in the gun)you'll get a nice sparkle especially if you go with a contrasting color like red or blue over black. You can always let it tack and blow on more coats if you want it darker but,you can't take it back off if you go too heavy.Pearl is pretty cheap and adds a great effect but,use it sparingly, too much will ruin a nice job.Scott sometimes uses a pearl toner which it looks like you can control the coverage better but, the powder or paste works good too.
