I used to spray Standox. Now i am spraying ppg dbc. Whenever the temperature changed, i adjusted the viscosity of the standox clears and it was all good. I haven't seen any viscosity information for any of ppg's products. Can anyone help?

PPG doesn't list viscosity measurements anymore since most people don't do it.Just mix the dbc 100% with the appropriate reducer-with the exception of black which is only cut 50%.I run a few degrees warmer on the reducer compared to the reducer range.I use 885 if it's under 80.From 80 - 85 I'll throw in a little 895 and from 85-95 I use straight 895.If it's real hot you can mix in a little 898 if they even sell it up there but don't use it straight in basecoat unless it's over 100,the stuff is almost retarder and keeps base wet quite a while and you can get overpenetration of the solvent.Very easy stuff to use for most people. If Standox is anything like Sikkens and is forgiving to hosing it on just cut back some and put it on a little thinner.

I probably should have stated I run slower on the reducer because our humidity here is so high.I would assume in the warm months you're in the same boat. Also PPG clears will not harden chemically under 60 degrees so make sure you can keep that temp at least in the winter. It will dry but it won't cure.I'm not positive but I would say using the Supercharger hardner or accelerator won't change a thing other than speeding up the dry time.

i have been talking to my boss about product training for ppg. he already sent me to the color certification course and that was the best, class i have been to yet. i am new to this business (since 2000) so i still have a lot to learn. i went from working in a shop in madison to working back in my hometown, pop. 2280, big change! the two other guys i work with are not much for help. one of them offers his help and some of it is useful, but for the most part he is kind of a just get it done and get out of here kind of guy. some of the things he does are just plain sick! not to mention my boss is rarely incouraging, he is always right, even when i know he is wrong. i like to do it right, or not at all. this message board is awesome. i look forward to learning and even helping at times. thanks!
