PPG

Scott,
Didn't I read that you use mostly PPG ? What do you do for candy colors, is that automotive candy. I have already sprayed my tank and fenders with DZ3 and called HOK about applying their Kandy and they say I need to take all of the primer off. I would really rather not do this, the primer I used is for cc/bc or "under most two part topcoat systems". Couldn't I just go with cc/bc PPG. They tell me they can mix candy but I think I read here on this sight that alot of the automotive candy is in the clear and fades fast.
Thanks

Mike,
Actually, I use HOK for all my candies. I also use the shimrin metallics for the base colors under the candies. Sometimes I mix colors together to get the effect I want.

I see no problem in spraying these over your primer.

I would have figured they had a sealer for it but I guess not.If you don't want to strip it you'll have to go the DP route,if not sand it off with 150 at first and when you start getting thin go to 180 and then go with the HOK primer.

Yes Scott I see what you mean. According to the House of Kolor web site the Shimrin products are good for acrylic lacquer or urethane enamel top coats so acrylic lacquer primer should be ok under it. Don't understand why the tech at HOK told me oon the phone to strip the DZ3. Maybe because they sell HOK ?
Thanks Scott

Oops! My fault...Yes, you do need to remove the DZ3. You should not use a basecoat clearcoat system over lacquer primer. You will need to use some sort of catalyzed primer.
Sorry for the previous info.

What I said in your other post,DP epoxy over the DZ3 then go from there.Check the other post for the requirements of using DP though.I must say that's not the best way and I wouldn't do it.
