Prep Chrome to Paint

I'm going to paint over some chrome custom handlebars. Looking for ideas on how to prep. Don't really want to blast. Looking for anyone who has had success painting over chrome. Will be shooting a b/c and HOK kandy.
Thanks,

Never painted over chrome but,Had some HOK epoxy primer on my smooth chrome watch band,I had to scrape it off with a knife,Maybe some 80grit and epoxy would workThe epoxy sands out real smooth..If someone else don't have an answer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

i knocked down some chrome fenders on an old honda last year. Used a da with 80 grit to take the chrome off the primed and painted. Still looks good to this day.

I have used HOK "adherto" on chrome with good success. No sanding at all. Just W&G remove and then shoot the adhereto. Then come in with the basecoat just like normal.

I always blast them with glass beads or sand in a cabinet (the sand in a cabinet has been beat up so it's finer). All you need to do is etch it good but don't break through.Sanding is fine too.If you try to remove it make sure it's all off.
