I know on a metal tank how to prep the gas bung "filler hole" but would you prep the same way on a fiberglass tank. I am painting my first fiberglass tank in a couple of days. And any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bruce

The owner of the tank tells me its fiberglass, but I havent seen it, I will see it this week though, he works for an rv dealership and has recently started building and selling choppers.
So until then I will assume its true fiberglass.

I would treat it the same as steel but I'd tell him no guarantee period.A solid mount motor eventually kills a steel tank,I couldn't imagine that thing not stress cracking pretty quick.I wonder if it isn't one of those outer casts to paint and hang on the wall for show,I can't believe someone would make a glass one for use let alone someone buy one.

Hey Rex, it looks to be a fiberglass resin that has been injection molded. I will prep just like a steel tank with no guarantee. Im going to spray hok. Well have a good one.

I hope that's some real good resin they use,I just can't see it holding up.Document what you do to it,it wouldn't surprize me if he comes back later with a steel one to do if he's going to run this thing.

Ducati used fiberglass tanks alot in the late '70's. I've painted a few of them I've never had any problems.
