Prepping the frame

There's plenty of info on here about prepping the tanks and fender, but what about the frame?

If the paint is in good shape, can I use the same technique of sanding with 600 or 800 and then shooting over it? Or do I need to sandblast and prime the whole thing? I'd prefer the former, since it's so much less work.

You might want to Blast it first - Frames have more oil and grease on and in them than any other part of a bike -- Blast it - Wash it - Degease it!!! -- Then start priming -- Bones!~

Yeah,I have to agree with that. The frame is one place you don't want alot of buildup also to help with chip prevention if you don't want to go powdercoating.

So what kind of primer do I need for the frame? I wasn't planning on blasting and priming the tank or fenders, but if I can use the same primer, I may. That leads to another issue. The piece of crap fenders on my Honda are plastic, how do I strip them and do I need an adhesion promoter before the primer?

Use the search and look up the topic "motorcycle frame painting". There are several good responses in it.

I really think frames should be powdercoated.

Good luck.

Whats up Dennis??

Frame?? There's a powder coater up north in College Station.... 300 bucks for a frame.

Don't know a whole lot about it but, coating is better then painting on frame, from my opinion... very thick stuff!!!!

Looks like I may be borrowing your sandblaster after all, Dave.

BTW, big day for me yesterday. Got my Finishline 3 AND rented a garage at my apartment complex. Now I just need a compressor and paints and I can get started on test panels. I'm working on the compressor. I'd like to drop by Sunday AM to take a look at the HOK chips. Does that work? I'll even bring the beer.
