probably a dumb question once parts are ready for a base coat primed and clear of all nicks,dings,etc can a base coat be applied directly to this primed surface -is the primer itself a rough enough texture to give some bite or too rough and need to be wet sanded prior to the base coat application if so what grit should be used

it depends on your primer some primers can be basecoated within 24 hours without sanding but to be safe you can always use a fine sand just to scuff refer to your primer specs for a definate answer

Sometimes you can get away without sealing the panel. Depends on the color
We usually final sand with 320. If it's a lighter color metallic you want to spray, I would suggest going with a finer grit and also seal the parts since most metallics are transparent so you want to start with a consistent colorered surface to start with.
