Problems with Spies Hecker

Have any of you guys had trouble with Spies? I have some places pimpling up on a chevelle I painted last winter (Dec). The car is a long term project, been stored inside and all tech sheets were followed to a T. I have been painting for over twenty years, and other than some seedy clear one time, this is my first real dilemma. The body was prepped with DuPont materials. The paint rep said that would suffice as I was using Chroma Primier primer. The car was stripped, etched and them worked and primed. Cured for two months then shot last December. I painted in a temp controlled booth and had no issues. I noticed pimples on the roof this weekend (Sep. 4). None of the other panels have these marks. I thought maybe contamination, but they are localized on the roof. I have heard that Spies recommends sanding between clear coats. I just followed directions and applied two, then sanded and buffed. My question is has anyone had pimples and or pops in Spies clear? If so, please tell me what to do other than grinding down to the metal and starting over. The project is 3/4 complete. I am enclosing pics. and will have close ups later this week.

Thanks
Richie

do you have a close up of this defect? also doesnt it say on the tech sheet you have 24 hours to top coat? otherwise you need to scuff and recoat to prevent problems. if you left it for two months you would of needed to reshoot the primer then recoat within 24 hours.

I think it was the primer he left for 2 months, not the base.

Since we don't have any pics, I would guess that it's rust coming back on you.
Moisture in your air lines would also cause this.
Post pics once you get them taken.

Ah, so you were talking about the primer. I've never heard anything about only have a limited time on spraying over primer. I've let primer sit for months before painting over.
I always thought the longer the primer had to cure the better.

I tried to get close up pics, but it's not showing up. Maybe you can see em. Will try again with different light. They showed up on my camera monitor, but now that I am looking at the pics, can't really see them.
:sillyme: Think I am going to re buff and see what happens.

I really don't see anything. Try wetsand and buffing out and see if they come back.
Could be the prepwork, moisture in either the primer, or base, or just coming through the line when you were spraying, rust (rust is normally not dimples or pimples though).
Could be dirt in the paint, but looking at the pics, looks like the paint is nice and flat from the wetsand/buff.

Maybe see if you can get the pimple spots in a pic in different lighting like you said. That might help. Maybe outside in the shade might help

i use this paint every day unfortunately, have painted thousands of cars with it and have only had one car blister and it was my chevelle and it is on the roof and upper quarters. it must be some kind of moisture problem, are the blisters hard? it is probably rust, if they are soft it is probably moisture sometimes you can poke them with a pin and see water come out.if you can ovoid it never use this paint again it is absolute crap. i have been painting for 17 years and it is the worst paint system i have ever used. you should never have to sand clear between coats it would be a total pain in the ass.
